Great job at All Earth Day Activities

We had a great day with ALL activities – even getting dirty with the seed bombs.  Of course we will be kicking up dust in my room for a while.  Kids you can pick up your seed balls next week before you go home.  I will have them in plastic bags with your names on them.  If you don’t come to the room to get them by Friday morning I will put them up by the school store.  Any that are not picked up I will use to pretty up the landscape (sensory garden, Lustig Park, LIFEhouse…)

The first Earth Day

I remember the very first Earth Day - I was in 7th grade.  The whole idea of recycling was new at the time.  I joined the Ecology Club and went to Milton College to hear speakers talk about Earth Day.

Seed Bombs

We will be making Seed Bombs for students to take home.  It seems to fit the action in the movie Avatar and the students should have fun making the bombs and scattering some around at home.  Thanks Ms. Baker.

That’s the flag I have.  You are correct about differences of opinion about Earth Day.  I’m thinking we should stick to the tradition connected to Wisconsin started by Senator Gaylord Nelson.

Just checking, is this the flag that you have.  I have read several different sites and there seems to be some discussion as to which is the “correct” flag.  This is the one use for the first Earth Day.

Morning Announcements on Thursday

Hi Margaret,

There will be some changes to the regular announcements routine due to Earth Day celebrations.  Make your usual announcements at 7:45 as usual, including weather.  Do not play the national anthem at this time.  I would like you, Anna, Jenna A, and Allie to lead us in singing it later in the morning.  Please talk to Ms. Heesen about Brailling the lyrics to the National anthem on your BrailleNotes or on paper.  At the end of all the other announcements, I will have you read a description of the special events for Earth Day so students understand changes to their schedules.
